What’s the difference between crostini and bruschetta?
Crostini (“little crusts” in Italian) are small slices of bread toasted or baked in the oven, while bruschetta is a large slice of bread rubbed with garlic and grilled to perfection. You’d typically be served many crostini but only one or two slices of bruschetta.
Homemade crostini and bruschetta are super simple to make and just involve a few simple ingredients.
French baguette or loaf of Italian bread: A round loaf of crusty bread is perfect for making larger bruschetta slices.
Olive oil: A fresh, bold tasting olive oil will definitely contribute to exceptional crostini.
Kosher salt
Fresh garlic clove (if making bruschetta): Bruschetta slices are rubbed down with the cut side of a garlic clove before being grilled.
How do I make crostini?
Simply slice Italian or French bread with a sharp serrated knife and arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet. Use a pastry brush to brush with olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Then bake until crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
