Or, since you’ll probably be reading this post-Halloween, happy fall, y’all!

Either way, these chocolate Reese’s cookies are a seasonally-appropriate festive goodie because of their autumn coloring — rich brown cookies with bits of orange and yellow peanut butter candy peaking out, evoking pumpkins, hay, and the fall leaves we wish we got here in Charleston.

Hey, here in South Carolina, we don’t get many vibrant leaves outside, so we may as well have the fall colors in a cookie. Plus, yum!

This year, I’m sad to say, we didn’t do anything for Halloween except buy a bag of mixed fun-sized candy and hope for a few trick-or-treaters.

Unfortunately, we live on a dead end road with neighbors who always leave their lights off so the families have learned not to come down this way. I may have been a little too excited when Belle, Batman, and a ballerina showed up at our door about half an hour ago. They were our first (and probably last) trick-or-treaters of the night.

Usually I’ll take any opportunity to dress up in a fun costume and go out in public — especially when free food is involved, like National Talk Like a Pirate Day at Krispy Kreme or Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-Fil-A.

Two years ago for Halloween, Mike and I were lawn ornaments — me a pink flamingo and him a garden gnome — and last year somehow I put together both a dalek and ood costume in less than 24 hours. (aliens from Doctor Who, if you’re not familiar)

Pretty hard to top.

Also, side note, can you tell I married the right guy? *heart-eyed emoji*

This year I was about to throw together last-minute ladybug and bumblebee costumes so we could go to the Halloween swing dance and paint the town red, but we decided instead to take advantage of one of our last days before daylight savings hits and plant some shrubs in the back yard.

Gah, when did I become a grown-up?

Although, I am seriously, really, REALLY excited about this new flowerbed, since our backyard has been a blank slate of mostly dirt for the last two and a half years that we’ve lived here.

I mean, now we’ve got azaleas, hydrangeas, camellias, and lenten roses. It’s looking AWESOME. Like, as awesome as our Doctor Who costumes last year, except we’ll get to enjoy it for more than a day.

So to make up for my boring adulting when I should have been costuming it up, I brought these festive cookies into work. I even drew a cute little jack-o-lantern on a post-it note. That’s festive, right?

(Also, currently taking suggestions for epic couples costumes I could make for next year. Really, what could top the last two years? Help me out here!)

These chocolate Reese’s cookies are my go-to chocolate cookies, but with Reese’s Pieces instead of my usual mix of dark and white chocolate chips. I love them because they stay soft for days, since I do not like a crunchy cookie!

I’m pretty sure it’s the basic Nestle Toll House recipe, but I found it on Allrecipes.com eons ago and have been happily baking them ever since. (Oh my gosh, I just looked at the date on my allrecipes review and I have been making this base recipe for at LEAST a dozen years).

The texture is more cakey/fudgey than chewy, almost like a brownie, and I have to say I like the tiny bit of crunch added by the candy shells of the Reese’s Pieces.

If you’re looking for a festive fall cookie, these chocolate Reese’s cookies will not disappoint! Or if you just want an all-around good chocolate cookie, use this recipe and add whatever you want in it!

My favorite is the “triple chocolate cookie” version, with the chocolate cookie, chocolate chips, and white chocolate chips. *drools*
