This…is the story of a sandwich.

I went to Quebec City earlier this summer and my husband and I went on a food tour of one of the up-and-coming neighborhoods there.

First of all: Awesome experience. Delicious food. Totally worth the money.

Second of all: The first stop on the food tour was a fromagerie with fresh raw milk cheese and delicious cured meats. I was all sad and jealous because I wished we had a shop like that in Charleston.

And then I thought, wait a minute… What am I saying? It’s Charleston! Maybe we DID have a shop like that!

So I looked it up and sure enough, there is an absolutely delightful cheese and charcuterie shop called “Goat. Sheep. Cow.” just down the road from our church downtown. They make cheese and charcuterie boards to order, sell meats and cheeses by the pound, have a whole wall of wine, and are stocked with all the other fixin’s to make your own exquisite cheese boards.

Oh, and they also have a sandwich of the day that they make from those delicious ingredients and sell in limited quantities.

We’re always down in that area on Sundays for church but they’re closed on Sundays, and they’re not open late either, so that leaves Saturdays only.

We stopped by one Saturday and picked up some delicious cheese and salami and made our own cheese board at home (watch the video here), and also picked up a couple of the daily sandwiches which I had seen on Instagram (I think it was this one) and promptly called to reserve.

The sandwich gave me moony heart eyes and I wanted one every day.

Did I mention they’ve been open six years, and my office used to be two blocks from them, and I NEVER KNEW THEY EXISTED? Sure, I had walked by there, but never went in.

And that means I missed out on about three years worth of possible sandwiches-of-the-day while I worked downtown. I am SO BUMMED.

Well, last Friday I saw another of their sandwiches-of-the-day on Instagram and it looked so good I took a screenshot of it and sent it to my husband, since my office is no longer walking distance so I couldn’t go there and get it.

It was a prosciutto and brie sandwich with fig orange spread and greens on a baguette. Pure heaven.

With half a wedge of brie in the fridge leftover from some tea sandwiches I made last weekend, I thought I may as well make my own version of the sandwich.

I picked up a baguette, some prosciutto, and a jar of fig orange spread on our grocery run on Sunday and voila! A nice crusty cured-meat and brie sandwich, with all that sweet-salty-creamy goodness. Made me feel like I was in France.

If you want to feel like you are in France (not that I know what that’s like), I highly suggest you make this prosciutto and brie sandwich with fig orange spread. Seriously awesome.

And if you’re ever in Charleston, you should totally stop by Goat. Sheep. Cow. for their sandwich of the day (call to reserve yours or they’ll run out!). And check out their Instagram for some serious sandwich and cheese board inspo.

  • 1 French baguette
  • 1/4 cup fig orange spread
  • 4 oz brie cheese
  • 3 oz thinly sliced prosciutto about 6 slices
  • 2 leaves red leaf lettuce or handful of mixed greens
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  • Cut baguette in half lengthwise and crosswise into two long sandwich loaves. Spread each bottom half with 2 tbsp fig orange spread. Top each sandwich bottom with 3 slices prosciutto, sliced brie cheese, and a leaf of lettuce.
  • Drizzle 1 tbsp olive oil over each top half of the baguette and close the sandwiches.

Notes

Use more prosciutto if you’d like! I would have but it’s kinda pricey so I just bought one 3-oz. package.

    1. Do any of your local grocery stores have decent cheese sections? We have an Earth Fare and a Harris Teeter that have really nice ones! Fortunately brie and prosciutto aren’t that hard to find, though, so I bet you could make one even without the awesome fromagerie!

  1. The sandwich looks amazing. So glad you have that shop right near you, and also glad you enjoyed Québec! That’s where my grandmother was born! Our last big trip before moving to Tucson was to spend a week in the old city – so romantic and beautiful!
